The Innovation
The P15's quad-stack magazine is a genuine engineering achievement: 15 rounds of 9mm in a magazine thinner than most single-stack 8-rounders. The entire gun is 0.88 inches wide and weighs 14 ounces — stats that seem impossible on paper. Kel-Tec achieved this with a combination of a metal frame, innovative magazine geometry, and aggressive weight reduction throughout.
The result is a gun that carries like a subcompact single-stack but packs the capacity of a Glock 19. For shooters who find even the P365's 17.8 oz too heavy, the P15 is in a league of its own.
The Compromises
Physics doesn't negotiate. A 14-ounce 9mm pistol delivers noticeably more felt recoil than a 20+ ounce competitor. Follow-up shots require more effort. Extended range sessions are fatiguing. The P15 is a gun you carry for the capacity and tolerate on the range.
The grip safety is the other polarizing element. Some shooters find it natural and unintrusive; others report that it doesn't fully depress with their natural grip, causing occasional failures to fire. Testing with your specific hand size and grip style before committing to carry is essential. Kel-Tec's customer service has been responsive to early-production issues, but the brand doesn't carry the same institutional confidence as SIG, Glock, or S&W.
