Post-Bruen, California technically operates as shall-issue but has imposed extensive sensitive-places restrictions and training requirements. SB 2 (2024) dramatically expanded prohibited locations. Where You Cannot Carry
Even with a valid permit, the following locations in California prohibit firearms:

- amusement parks
- public transit
- hospitals
- places of worship
- parks

- stadiums
- zoos
- museums — extensive 'sensitive places' list enacted post-Bruen
Federal law always applies. Regardless of state law, carrying is always prohibited in federal buildings, post offices, VA facilities, military installations, airports (past TSA security), and anywhere prohibited by federal statute. These restrictions apply in every state.
